Stories from the Wilderness: The Path To Promise

As last year began, I felt like I was walking into a desert, so much of me felt dead: my dreams, my energy, my hair. I found myself last year wandering through the wilderness, often feeling trapped by my circumstances. My heart was raw from walking through some intense suffering and 2018 started off with even more. I wondered how much my heart could take. I wondered how I ended up in this wilderness place to begin with. I wondered what on earth God was thinking.

Maybe you find yourself in a similar place. Maybe you are asking “Where is God?” or “Why am I going through this thing?” or “This isn’t the place I thought I’d be” or maybe you long to go back to the way it used to be.

The Israelites felt that too. In Exodus, we see God deliver them from slavery in Egypt. But their picture of deliverance differed from God’s. Instead of walking out of Egypt straight into the Promised Land, they found themselves in a place they didn’t expect to go: The Wilderness.

But God did not leave them there alone. No, He tenderly guided them and He showed them His power, His love, His grace, His mercy, His provision, His glory.

You see, when we are in the wilderness, we see God is a way we couldn’t otherwise see Him, and that’s why sometimes He purposefully leads us there: the place we didn’t expect to be.

The Study Details

Join First Baptist Orlando Women’s Ministry Girlfriend Groups as we study The Wilderness: The Path to Promise. This 8-week study will follow the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land, taking us through parts of Exodus, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. Discover Who God is in the years of wandering the wilderness and God’s truth about life between rescue and the Promised Land.
